Higher bills and costly utility true-ups
Without active monitoring and bill review, a failed inverter, microinverter, optimizer, communication device, or tripped breaker may reduce production for weeks or months. The homeowner may buy more electricity from the utility and, when the account uses an annual true-up structure, face a much larger balance than expected—potentially costing thousands of dollars in severe or long-running underproduction cases.

Soiling blocks available sunlight
Dust, pollen, ash, bird droppings, leaves, and nearby construction or traffic residue can reduce the light reaching the modules. The impact varies by roof pitch, weather, location, and the type of buildup.

Alerts and warranty issues can age
Ignoring recurring alerts can extend system downtime and delay the documentation, troubleshooting, serial-number verification, and manufacturer coordination often needed for a warranty claim or equipment replacement.

Small visible concerns may become repairs
Periodic inspection can identify damaged wiring or conduit, loose components, pest activity, vegetation, debris, corrosion, or roof-area concerns before they become more disruptive or expensive to coordinate.
Module hot-spot damage
Cracks and damaged cells can become concentrated heat problems.
Spiderweb or microcracks, damaged cells, heavy localized soiling or shade, failed bypass components, and broken electrical pathways can force current through a smaller active area. That resistance can create a hot spot—a localized high-temperature area associated with power loss and module failure.
Burned, browned, or discolored cells and backsheet areas
Damaged busbars, interconnect ribbons, solder joints, or cell pathways
Spiderweb cracking, fractured glass, and electrically isolated cell sections
Accelerated encapsulant, backsheet, and connection degradation

Important: Visual damage does not establish the full electrical condition. Qualified testing may include monitoring review, voltage and current checks, insulation or ground-fault testing, thermal imaging under suitable operating conditions, and manufacturer-specific procedures. Solar-panel cleaning

Rain can rinse many systems, but Southern California's dry periods, dust, pollen, ash, bird activity, coastal residue, and nearby traffic or construction can create site-specific buildup. REECH reviews production and visible conditions to recommend cleaning when it can provide a practical benefit.
